Nursing Home Care vs Skilled Nursing Care

Nursing Home Care

Nursing homes provide the most comprehensive care available outside of a hospital. Nursing facilities provide care, such as assistance with bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, mobility, incontinence, and eating. Things that patients can no longer do alone for themselves that require assistance. Most of these activities are assisted by nursing assistants, geriatric assistants, and patient care technicians.

Skill Nursing Care

A skilled nursing facility is an in-patient rehabilitation and medical treatment facility staffed by medical experts. Licensed nurses, physical and occupational therapists,  respiratory therapists, speech pathologists, and audiologists provide medically essential treatments. Skilled nursing care is provided by trained registered nurses in a medical setting under a doctor's supervision. It's basically the same level of nursing care you get in the hospital. Patients may go from the hospital to a skilled nursing facility to continue recovery after an illness, injury, or surgery.
